Nausea has passed... kinda wrecks my day, though, as always. Still, I have laundry going downstairs and put the clean sheets on the bed amid the scampering and random materialisations of an absolutely loco feline.

I also got a notice from the library saying I have a CD almost due that I returned probably close to two weeks ago. I'm sure they probably won't believe this, but I left them a message to tell them this.

Thing is, when I checked the CD out in the first place, she had some difficulty getting it checked out and told me it hadn't been entered into the system correctly or some such. So I'm wondering if, just possibly, when they scanned it back in, it had issues again and they didn't notice? I don't know how all that works. But I do know I took it back. Regardless of how disorganised other areas of my house may be, my library stuff is always all downstairs, or on my desk up here if it's CDs.

This is why I Far Prefer handing the books I'm returning over the counter rather than leaving them in the drop box. Although, being the nice cooperative patron I am, I do try to make their lives easier and they have indicated the They Far Prefer the drop box.

Blah.

Time to go do a bit of reading.

I'm so frustrated that I have no recollection whatsoever that I set up a PIN for my library account.

Let alone what it may have been.

My books are due today, the library is closed, and I'm not done reading either of them.

Gah.

So irritating.

As if that wasn't bad enough, some stupid antivirus thing launched itself apparently FROM the library's website and attempted to take over my life.

Guess I'll have to just go in to the library at some point tomorrow and get this sorted out.

I am, as of today, convinced that the book drop slots provided by the library are actually NOT for books, but are actually self-amputation encouragement devices.

Yes, I hurt my middle finger... again.

FAIL.

However, I did bring home three more Bill Bryson books, found a WWII ration book in a box of songbooks from Dan's grandma, and am the happy Keeper of the Army Uniform belonging to Dan's grandpa.

WIN.

Oh, and while I'm in Deep Thoughts mode, here's a query for you librarians.

How do YOU view the self-checkout machines?

Do they open up your time more? Do you regret the lack of personal interaction with the patrons?

I'm asking because I'm torn. I like the personal interaction, but I also am well aware that keeping up with library duties (or any work duties, really) is difficult to accomplish with constant interruptions.

Well, I went to the library again today, returned Psmith, and came home with four more books. A friendly librarian urged me to use the self-checkout, which was a fascinating experiment that almost didn't work. I like the middle-aged librarians much better than the younger, blond one who is almost always there and (I'm gathering) is in charge because I have often seen the others defer to her. I can't quite lay my finger on what it is, but I think she would start grating on my nerves very quickly if I had to work with her.

The lady who helped me today was very chatty and started talking about one of the authors I had selected and recommending other of his titles left and right. That was certainly not expected and I liked it. It reminded me of Sherri, the librarian in Pinehurst when I was little, who was always so chipper and would go to great lengths to find books for my avidly book-devouring family.

I'm really tired right now. It's starting to warm up. Glad I went to the library when I did, because it's too hot to go out now. Besides the fact that my internal water balloon causes me aches and pains when I get up and move around.

So I've been sitting, reading, and periodically watching some infant extremity protrude fleetingly through my skin like a Space Special ragtime alien about to emerge.

*hour later.... I got waaaaaay too sidetracked watching Mel Brooks clips on YouTube.......*

Just went to the new library for the first time.

Positives:
1. It is MUCH larger and more spacious - taller ceilings.
2. The nonfiction section is more defined (as in there are now spaces between all the various subjects, so it is MUCH easier for the naked eye to detect the gardening section, cooking section, and travel section for instance.

Negatives:
1. If they have A/C, it was definitely not on. It was really stuffy in there.
2. I didn't really feel there was that much out on the shelves that wasn't already in the other building. I had been given the impression that they had a basement full of books at the old building that would be added to the collection...

I wandered around for a long time desperately seeking SOMETHING that looked interesting by an author I've never read. Which, you know, is difficult sometimes.
