The crocheted kitty is quite cute - I love the whiskers! I agree with you, the ears need to be more pointy. That shouldn't be hard to change on the next one.
I think enlarging the cat will help with the pointiness of the ears, too. With such a tiny piece to work with, there's really no way to make it truly pointy, but about twice the size would help greatly in getting a sharper point.
